Phone chargers rated

Major mobile giants Motorola,Nokia,Sony Ericsson,LG and Samsung have together launched a program for common energy rating system for mobile chargers. This is considered as a step towards energy conservation.

Standby power or Vampire power (or Phantom load or Leaking electricity) refers to the electric power consumed by electronic appliances while they are switched off or in a standby mode.Mobile phone chargers are no exception to this .Your mobile phone charger still consumes power even when disconnected from phone but left unplugged into the electric socket.Apparently about tho-thirds of the energy is wasted in this manner ,about which we the consumers are not aware of .

The new rating system would take into account the vampire power loss incurred in this manner .Chargers belonging to all the aforementioned brands will be rated commonly.Rating will be from 0 to 4 or 5 stars .The ones consuming more power will be rated from 0 stars and so on  and the ones that consume less power will be rated with more stars.
