” Microsoft Free ” computers by IBM

ibmIn favour of Open Source , IBM has introduced a series of business computers that are ” Microsoft Free “.This IBM project was based on its work with Canonical and Virtual Bridges .According to IBM,these system would save  $500 to $800 per business user on software licenses and an additional $258 per user by means of eliminating the need for upgrading the hardware to support Vista and Ms Office.

The system, which IBM calls the Open Collaboration Client, combines the Linux operating system with IBM’s open source Lotus Symphony desktop package.Symphony includes word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications based on the Open Document Format. IBM Lotus Notes apps are also available.
