Who doesnt know this song ? Popeye is a household name .  Well as you guessed it right , this is not an article on tech.Its just an article on my childhood hero POPEYE !!

Popeye the Sailor is a fictional hero famous for appearing in comic strips and animated films as well as numerous TV shows. He was created by Elzie Crisler Segar, and first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929.The ‘Popeye industry’ generates $2.5 billion USD in annual sales and merchandise comes in the form of books, toys, computer games, canned spinach and even a fast-food chain.

Copyright on Popeye character restricts public use of it for 70 years after the death of its creator . This new year , popeye would be copyright free and soon become public. Soon you might find popeye filling up all places , from your t-shirt to Pizza wrapper . However, the character will still remain protected in the U.S. until 2024, as the country’s law protects a work for 95 years after its initial copyright.It would go copyright free only in European union .Currently , the trademark on Popeye is owned by King Features, a subsidiary of Hearst Corporation .

Mickey Mouse and Betty Boop , are also expected to become copyright free soon !
