This is a followup of my article on win32/conficker worm that has grabbed attention through its widespread infection.
Even Microsoft seems to be hit by its spread. Recently , it has come forward to offer $250,000 to anyone who “catches” the worm authors.
One of the worst scenario of this worm affecting day to day operation ,is the incident where the Houston police department was forced to stop arresting people with traffic warrants because the worm spread its way through the police and city court’s computer systems. There also was a Conficker outbreak among French military computers, which led to several fighter planes being grounded until everything could be fixed.
Microsoft has joined hand with ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and other experts like VeriSign,AOL, F-Secure etc . to trace out the worm creators .
“The best way to defeat potential botnets like Conficker/Downadup is by the security and domain name system communities working together..” : ICANN chief Internet security advisor Greg Rattray.
Microsoft has implemented an Antivirus Reward Hotline at 1-425-706-1111,
and an Antivirus Reward Mailbox at email@example.com to share tips.
Advice about defending against Conficker is available online here.

To date, Conficker has infected at least 10 million PCs since first being introduced into the wild.
Meanwhile , my “Linux is virus free ” notion has broken down. I came across an article by Foobar ,which explains “How to write a Linux virus in 5 easy steps”. You can read it here .
” Survival of the fittest” , a phrase popular among every educated person . And no hints are needed to guess the genius who coined it . Charles Darwin is celebrating his 200th birthday this year and his findings still revolutionise researches related to evolution .The entire scientific community—the AAAS,the National Academies of Science, Nature Publishing, the UK’s Wellcome Trust—is celebrating Darwin this year.
Theologists and rationalists still stand divided over the “principal of evolution by natural selection” and the “origin of man” proposed by Darwin. “Biological science is very clear about the capability of a pregnant lizard to smell its enemy from a distance. It can mutate the genes of the offspring inside to give it the capacity to smell its enemy from a much longer distance. Isn’t this contrary to what Darwin said in the survival of the fittest theory?” asked Prof B M Hegde, cardiologist. ButDr Kumarasamy Thangaraj, senior scientist, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, said the progress made in genetics over the past 50 years were in line with Darwin’s predictions about evolution.
The church even today negates the evolution theory. “Even if one accepts the theory of evolution, it does not exclude divine intervention in the process of creation of the universe,” said Dr Paul Thelakkat, a church spokesman.Dr S. Gokul Shankar, a micro-biologist, said Dasavatharam, the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, represented the theory of evolution.
Anyway , giving a twist to Darwin´s own words , its “survival of Darwin”.Yes the name still survives in all researches related to evolution of mankind .
