Apple gives into China’s pressure

Those who logged into the iPhone maps to have a glimpse of communistic China, would have been shocked and surprised to see a new addition to its territory. As you guessed it right, it is Arunchal Pradesh(AP) that is shown as part of China.
AP is in fact a part of democratic India. Apple Inc. has been literally forced by China into showing it this way, mainly because it lured the former about the business possibilities in its market and to step into which the support of the communist government is needed. More than 200,000 Chinese are expected to become owners of the iPhone 4 in coming weeks, following its recent launch.

Currently, the Chinese people are using Virtual Private Networks(VPN) to gain access to websites that are not blocked by the Chinese censorship programme. So with that possibility, they have been advised by bloggers all over the world to use Google maps as an error-free alternative.

Steve Jobs delivering the keynote during Macworld expo ,2005

With widespread rumours about Steve Jobs declining health , Apple has finally come out with  the ” truth ” .  Apple has chosen different strategies over the course of the past six months in handling those rumors. In an official statement released this Monday , Steve Jobs has reffered to a hormone imbalance that has been “robbing” him of proteins ,the real cause of his weight loss. This news was in fact a good news to Apple’s investors , who could now  sit back relaxed .No more worries about  rumors that Jobs was dying .

He is expected to be up and running, regaining the lost weight by the end of Spring, vowing to stay as Apple’s CEO during his recovery.

Meanwhile, this years MacWorld expo had Apple bring up little suprises , by cutting down the price of some songs in its market-leading iTunes online store to as little as 69 cents.

Other highlights in MacWorld Expo (related to Apple ):

  • Apple unveiled a new $2,800 Macbook Pro laptop with a 17-inch screen and the sleek aluminum casing the company debuted with the super-thin Macbook Air.
  • Apple gave the record labels that flexibility on pricing as it got them to agree to sell all songs free of “digital rights management,” or DRM, technology that limits people’s ability to copy songs or move them to multiple computers.
  • Apple  announced that iPhone 3G users will be able to buy songs from the iTunes store using the cellular data network.
  • Apple  unwrapped new versions of two software packages for Macs, iLife and iWork .

This would be the last Macworld expo for Apple .

Macworld Conference & Expo is a trade show dedicated to the Apple Macintosh platform with conference tracks held annually in the United States, usually during the second week of January. The Conference & Expo features educational conferences taught by leaders in their fields, which require large admission fees to attend, and last for a few more days than the Expo. The Expo is open for a number of days (generally three or four), and attendees can visit the exhibits set up by hardware manufacturers and software publishers that support the Macintosh platform.

With lot of speculations surrounding Steve Jobs health, Apple has officially announced that he wont be delivering the keynote address in the Macworld expo and the expo in 2009 would be the last one in which it would be participating. One reason that Apple puts forward for this decision is that trade shows are not a better way to reach customers .

The keynote in the Macworld 2009 expo would be delivered by Philip Schiller, the senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.Meanwhile , Adobe and Belkin have pulled out of the January 2009  MacWorld expo , with Google and others reducing the size of their stands.

One major question arises in the mind of IT world observers ,its  regarding the health of Jobs . Steve Jobs was diagnosed of a rare form of pancreatic cancer in 2003 and operated in 2004 . Though the operation was announced as  successful, Jobs looked lean in all recent public outings , but Apple re-assures that Jobs is fine .Mr Jobs himself joked about the issue as he unveiled the new Apple MacBooks in October, presenting a slide stating that his blood pressure was 110/70.

Need Antivirus software for Mac ?

Microsoft Windows used to be the butt of the jokes in all commercial ads of Apple Mac.Time has come where the latter is silently advicing its users to install multiple Anti virus softwares for it Mac OS. Apple which used to boast of its security thru’ ads like “Last year there were 114,000 known viruses for PCs,…..PCs, not Macs“, has fallen prey to the growing number of experienced hackers. The motive behind such a fear may be the growing number of web exploits , most which target cross platform browsers like Safari.

Finnish cyber security firm, F-Secure, has detected 13 new samples of malicious software, or “malware,” targeting Apple’s OS X operating system.F-Secure also  reports that the number of malware samples targeting Macs has actually dropped in the last 18 months. Compared with 13 samples found since July 1, F-Secure filtered out 61 samples in the earlier six months of the year, and 107 in the second half of 2007.

On Tuesday evening, Apple deleted the antivirus recommendation, writing in a statement to the press that it was “old and inaccurate,” and reiterating the claim that Apple devices are safe “right out of the box.”
